Since Paddlers for Humanity launched the Block Challenge in 2004, the 18-mile open ocean paddle has raised over $2M for children's mental health, education, and community programming on Long Island, Block Island and beyond.

Every year, crazy people start off in Montauk on their paddleboards at 6 am and make it somehow to Block Island sometime before noon.  This year, I decided to be one of them. Here's why: 

1) Block Island is one of the coolest places on the planet, and this way I can get there for free.

2) Kind of into the whole children's mental health thing. 

2) My own mental health thing. 

4) Because, a new killer bathing suit. 

5) This is a no-brainer, virtually effortless opportunity to deny my own mortality. 

Not to mention, all the required training will be a great way to use up my hours and hours of free time!

I know, I know. Major FOMO, and you really want a piece of this radical action. No worries, I got you.

• You can support ME by donating, right now, on this page.
• YOU can register to paddle 18 miles of open ocean yourself, or do it as a relay with a friend (one of you hangs out on the safety boat with an iced tea while the other brings it, and then you switch). Plus, it doesn't happen until August 17--so you totally still have time to find your mojo. 
• WE can meet up on Block Island at the end of the paddle and freak out together.
